Morning Practice by the River河畔晨练

A handful of people, a riverside shelter, and an hour of practice before the day starts.

A tiled floor, a canopy keeping the sun off, and a handful of people. Beyond the railing the water is flat and unmoving, and the far bank is trees, grass and the backs of apartment blocks. It is early enough that the light is still soft. They stand apart from one another — not in rows, just far enough that nobody's arms will meet anyone else's. A man in a red shirt has taken the spot near the pillar. A woman in orange stands at the outer edge, closest to the water. Someone has set a bag down on the tiles and left it there. Nobody is watching anyone. That is what the photograph keeps returning to: the same direction, the same movements, and not one head turned to see how the others are getting on. A public shelter, an ordinary morning, an hour that belongs to whoever turns up. The session is part of 公益晨练, a morning programme run by Lee Wudang SG in River Valley through September. The programme runs each morning until 22 September 2026 — see Singapore Charity Morning Workout under Events & Courses.
